Description

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the Americas, with a disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations. The burden of NCDs continues to increase and represents a significant challenge for health systems, which must respond with more accessible, effective, and people-centered care models. In this context, Primary Health Care (PHC) is a fundamental pillar for the prevention, detection, and timely management of NCDs, aligning with global commitments toward Universal Health.

The "Better Care for NCDs" Initiative emerges as a strategic response by PAHO to accelerate the integration of NCDs into PHC, promoting the optimization of care models, strengthening the capacity of health personnel, and implementing innovative tools that facilitate access and improve the quality of services.

As part of this strategy, PAHO has developed the "Better Care for NCDs" Introductory Course, a 15-hour self-administered program that introduces the initiative's key principles and provides practical tools for identifying priorities and opportunities for improvement in PHC services. This course is part of the Organization's efforts to strengthen the ongoing training of primary health care teams, contributing to improved response in the comprehensive management of NCDs.

This webinar marks the official launch of the Introductory Course in English, providing a comprehensive overview of its content, methodology, and application in the Region.
