eHealth: analyze the application of information technology and communication in health care

It will be from 22 to 24 October in the ninth Congress Regional Information Health Sciences, organized by PAHO / WHO and BIREME in Washington, DC.

Washington, DC, October 18, 2012 (PAHO / WHO). - Health professionals and information in health sciences will participate from 22 to 24 October the Ninth Regional Congress of Information in Health Sciences (CRICS9) , organized by the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) and the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences (NLM), in Washington, DC.

Under the theme "eHealth: approaching universal access to health", participants will share experiences and exchange information on programs, projects, systems and information networks on health and science communication in the region. Also discussed at conferences, roundtables, panels and topics courses relevant to public health based on five themes: information for health decision, strategies and policies, information and communication technologies, telehealth, and capacity building.

EHealth can contribute to sustainable development of health systems to improve access to and quality of services, from the use of information technology and communications (ICT), digital literacy training and ICT access to evidence-based information and continuing education and distance learning.

Opening the meeting, which will take place on October 22 when 9, will be chaired by the Director of PAHO, Dr. Mirta Roses, the director of Knowledge Management and Communications PAHO, Marcelo D'Agostino, the director BIREME and CRICS9 President, Adalberto Tardelli, also director of the National Institute of Health in the United States, Francis Collins, and George Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association.

Events take place at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization in the U.S. capital and include the presentation of the eHealth strategy of PAHO / WHO approved by Member States of the Organization in 2011, the management of information in emergencies and disasters, the ESAC project on eHealth, Innovation and Equity in Latin America and the Caribbean, and telehealth experience applied to primary care in Brazil.

The event will be preceded on 20 and 21 October at the 6th Regional Coordination Meeting of the Virtual Health Library (BVS6), whose theme will also eHealth. The meeting will be a forum for exchanging classroom experiences and knowledge among network producing institutions, intermediaries and users of scientific and technical health of VHL. Three working groups, participants will discuss management and collaboration networks, products and services VHL information, and technology and interfaces.

Some components of eHealth is the electronic medical record (or electronic medical records), telehealth (including telemedicine), the mHealth (or mobile health), eLearning (including training or distance learning), continuing education information technology and communication, and standardization and interoperability between different technologies and software applications to exchange data and use it effectively, accurate and robust.

CRICS series began in 1992, in the framework of the meeting of the then representatives of the 37 countries that formed the Latin American Health Information, VHL network today. Born as a congress innovator in the fields of information and scientific communication, knowledge management, and information technology methodologies and applications for the development of systems research, education and health care. Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba and Mexico were CRICS host countries in previous editions.
