The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) held a series of tutor training seminars with the purpose of improving the competencies and technical capacities in virtual tutoring of its teaching teams.

The PAHO Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in collaboration with the Association for Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) organized the seminar Regional Framework of Teaching Competencies in Public Health (RFTCPH) Webinar 2024 - Towards a Network of Teachers. The virtual seminar, moderated by the Faculty of Nursing and Obstetrics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, aimed at consolidating and formalizing a network of teachers that has been articulated around the RFTCPH and was attended by more than 500 participants from all over the region.

On June 18 and 19, a workshop was held by the Secretariat of Labor Management and Health Education of the Ministry of Health of Brazil (SLMH/MH) - Secretaria de Gestão do Trabalho e da Educação na Saúde – SGTES- in Potuguese- to define the work priorities of the Brazil Node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH). The workshop included participation from the regional team of the Virtual Campus, representatives from SLMH/MH, Fiocruz, and PAHO Brazil, who analyzed the tasks and responsibilities in managing the Node and developed a roadmap for the strategic use of the Brazil Node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health in 2024-2025.

Experts from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) participated in a two-day workshop at the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV in Portuguese), located on the grounds of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The aim was to discuss strategies to increase access to courses offered by PAHO's Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH), for health technicians.

The Virtual Campus for Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization (CVSP/PAHO) plays a fundamental role in training health technicians throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. To understand the experience of these professionals to reach health technicians with training offerings suitable to their characteristics and needs, the Joaquim Venâncio School of Health Polytechnics (EPSJV/Fiocruz) from Brazil, together with the Virtual Campus, has entered into a joint work agreement.

Washington DC, April 26, 2024 (PAHO)- The development of virtual educational proposals in health institutions requires trained teaching teams with the capacity to analyze the environment and the challenges of the transformation of the world of work in health and education.

As part of the commitments of the Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) to strengthen the teaching capacities in health institutions in the Region of the Americas, this Special Program of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has collaborated with academic institutions in the design of a course focused on "Leadership for Educational Management in Health Organizations".

The course has already been approved for development by the governance committee of the Virtual Campus and work has been carried out to define its contents.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) supported the organization of the First International Meeting on Scientific Communication, Health and Social Impact, held from April 8 to 12 at the Faculty of Sciences of Information from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), in Spain. Scholars and researchers from Africa, Latin America and Europe participated actively during the event.

The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) surpassed 3 million users from more than 225 countries and territories around the world.

Washington DC, 11 December 2023 (PAHO)- The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) participated in the workshop "Capacity development in PHC: Learning Pathways for person centered models of care”, at the Regional Forum: Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas, which took place from December 4 to 6, 2023, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Gabriel Listovsky, Chief of the VCPH special program, presented on the topic “Learning Pathways within the framework of lifelong education” and highlighted that it is necessary to design plans for continuous training of human resources for health in accordance with the regional and national contexts. This means, advancing in the design of Learning Pathways to strengthen human resources.

Training and exchange meetings 2023 on November 16, at 12:00 p.m. (EDT). The topic of the meeting will be “Design, use and circulation of Open Educational Resources”.

PAHO launches the new online course on Health Promotion and the Health Promotion Window of Knowledge, two e-learning tools to advance Health Promotion in the Region of the Americas.

Washington, D.C., October 30, 2023 – The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, highlighted that “to build stronger, more equitable, and healthier communities, it is essential to strengthen and invest in health promotion”, which involves, he added, “creating healthy environments, promoting community participation and empowerment, strengthening health governance and intersectoral action, and incorporating this approach into healthcare systems.” 

Washington D.C., 30 October 2023 (PAHO)- The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) today commemorated 20 years of operation of its Virtual Public Health Campus (VCPH), highlighting its fundamental contribution to virtual health education. Today, the Campus has over 2.5 million users.

"When we look back to the year 2003 and remember the launch of this pioneering platform, we don't just see a technological tool, but the birth of a vision," PAHO Director, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa said during an event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Virtual Campus.

Washington D.C. September 24, 2023: The Pan American Health Organization, in coordination with the Virtual Campus for Public Health, presents the English version of the course "Introduction to the Renewed Essential Public Health Functions (EPHF)." The primary objective of this online course is to introduce the new conceptual framework of EPHF, providing key concepts of its evaluation methodology and strengthening the stewardship of health authorities.

The goal is to inspire participants to identify their personal contributions and become agents of change in advancing universal health.

Panama, 20 July 2023 (PAHO)- The Dominican Republic node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization (VCPH/PAHO) launched the second edition of the virtual course "Training of tutors for network learning" with more than 35 participants. The course is expected to last for ten weeks, from July 16 to September 24, 2023, and offers an overview of the different tasks and functions related to the management of online training programs.

Panama, 15 July 2023 (PAHO) - The Virtual Campus of the Pan American Health Organization (VCPH/PAHO) participated in the event #LearningSavesLives: OpenWHO stories from around the world on July 13, 2023, organized by OpenWHO, the free learning platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The online event was focused on showcasing how learners have used the OpenWHO.org learning platform to protect public health in their communities.

“Since the start of the pandemic, and in active collaboration with OpenWHO, the Virtual Campus responded quickly to virtualization and capacity-building needs, offering the first course in Spanish on COVID-19 in February 2020 and working together with OpenWHO to translate material into Spanish and Portuguese, making it available to people on both platforms,” said Gabriel Listovsky, regional coordinator of the Virtual Campus.
