The Virtual Campus participates in the event #LearningSavesLives organized by OpenWHO

Panama, 15 July 2023 (PAHO) - The Virtual Campus of the Pan American Health Organization (VCPH/PAHO) participated in the event #LearningSavesLives: OpenWHO stories from around the world on July 13, 2023, organized by OpenWHO, the free learning platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The online event was focused on showcasing how learners have used the learning platform to protect public health in their communities.

“Since the start of the pandemic, and in active collaboration with OpenWHO, the Virtual Campus responded quickly to virtualization and capacity-building needs, offering the first course in Spanish on COVID-19 in February 2020 and working together with OpenWHO to translate material into Spanish and Portuguese, making it available to people on both platforms,” said Gabriel Listovsky, regional coordinator of the Virtual Campus.

During the event, Gabriel Listovsky shared that the Virtual Campus is celebrating 20 years of history, "we have been pioneers in the Region of the Americas in the use of virtual classrooms for the education and training of health workers."

Likewise, he underscored PAHO's commitment to health education and its vision for promoting continuous training and collaborative learning to improve the health of people in the region and beyond.

Gabriel Listovsky introduced the panelist Nydia Alejandra Castillo-Martínez, who presented about on “OpenWHO  courses as an emerging strategy for distance learning in medical and dental shools during the COVID-19 pandemic”.

“I want to thank the OpenWHO colleagues for this initiative to share the countries’ experiences, and it gives me great joy to present a colleague who speak Spanish and who will share experiences from the Region of the Americas”.
