Skills Online Program Receives National Training Excellence Award

The Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) Skills Online Program received the Silver Canadian Award for Training Excellence in the eLearning category at the 2011 Canadian Society for Training and Development's (CSTD) Conference and Trade show.

The Skills Online Program is an Internet-based continuing education program that aims to help public health practitioners develop and strengthen their knowledge and skills in order to make better-informed public health decisions. The Program offers nine, eight-week modules in both English and French covering a variety of public health topics through facilitated and self-directed online learning.

Since 2007, PHAC and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) have collaborated to offer the highly regarded, interactive Program to public health professionals in the English-speaking Caribbean. Over 150 individuals from 13 countries have undertaken one or more modules to date.

CTSD is Canada's only national, professional association focused on training, learning, and development in the workplace. The Canadian Awards for Training Excellence honor innovative, Canadian-developed learning products and programs. The eLearning programs are rated using the following criteria: originality, instructional design, evaluation strategy, communication style, packaging, and overall value.

PAHO extends its congratulations to our Canadian partners for this award which recognizes their important contributions to the development of public health professionals.
