Scholarships available for graduate degrees in health and research at Brazilian universities
Students seeking graduate degrees in health and research for health may now apply for scholarships to study in Brazil under an agreement signed last year between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Organization of American States (OAS). The tuition-paid scholarships are being offered through the PAHO-OAS agreement in conjunction with the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB). The scholarships support studies at the master’s or PhD level in health-related areas at Brazilian universities and cover the costs of tuition and a subsistence allowance. The health scholarships are geared toward professionals who seek to put research for health to use in advancing public health in the Americas. All course studies will be in Portuguese. Proficiency in Portuguese is not required during the application stage, but it is a requisite for defending the graduate dissertation. Participating universities will provide free Portuguese language studies (on-site courses, on-line courses, tutorials with students or professors, or other modalities determined by the host university). Language support is typically provided once the student has begun studies; therefore, it is strongly recommended that selected candidates start taking Portuguese lessons before their travel to Brazil.
