This course, developed by the Department of Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief, presents the institutional response to emergencies and disasters policy adopted by the Organization in 2012, and how the Organization functions in emergency situation.
The course focuses on the most essential aspects of an organization-wide emergency response and presents fundamental elements such as the role of PAHO in emergency situations, the specific procedures and operation modes based on the severity of the disaster, the incident command system approach, among others.
The course presents the core elements to coordinate emergency response operations and aims to harmonize response capacity at regional, sub-regional and country level. The course targets all PAHO personnel, with a particular emphasis on PAHO/WHO representatives, disaster focal points, Department directors, technical experts and administrators, to ensure "One organization, one response".
