The Virtual Campus and the ASPPH join forces to strengthen and expand the network of public health professors in the Americas

The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in collaboration with the Association for Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) organized the seminar Regional Framework of Teaching Competencies in Public Health (RFTCPH) Webinar 2024 - Towards a Network of Teachers. The virtual seminar, moderated by the Faculty of Nursing and Obstetrics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, aimed at consolidating and formalizing a network of teachers that has been articulated around the RFTCPH and was attended by more than 500 participants from all over the region.

SGTES, Fiocruz and PAHO Brazil agree on joint work strategy for the Brazil Node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health

On the 18 and 19 of June, a workshop convened by the Secretariat of Work Management and Health Education of the Ministry of Health of Brazil (SGTES) was held to define the work priorities of the Brazil Node of the Virtual Campus. During the workshop, participants analyzed the tasks and responsibilities in the management of the Node and developed a roadmap for the strategic use of the Brazil Node of the Virtual Campus for 2024-2025.

The Virtual Campus, committed to improving the tutoring skills of its teaching teams, held a series of training seminars: the opinion of the participants

The Virtual Campus for Public Health held a series of tutor training seminars to improve the competencies and technical capacities in virtual tutoring of its teaching teams. The seminar series, with 140 participants enrolled, featured three synchronous sessions in which participants engaged in 15 hours of training. The topics addressed were: the educational approach of the VCPH; essential competencies for teaching; and assessment of learning.

The VCPH and EPSJV/Fiocruz discuss the profile of health technicians who use PAHO's educational platform

Experts from the Pan American Health Organization participated in a two-day workshop at the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The workshop aimed at discussing actions to increase the access of health technicians to the Virtual Campus courses. The activities are part of a project funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), which seeks to increase the capacity of health technicians in remote and underserved areas of the Region of the Americas within the framework of the post COVID-19 pandemic.

Development of competencies in health care for the elderly: ACAPEM

The course is part of the training itinerary to improve skills to address the needs of the elderly. Its purpose is for professionals to acquire specific competencies to provide integrated and focused care for the elderly at the primary care level, based on the functional ability and capacity of the elderly person.

This course focuses on processes used by countries to set health priorities that are reflected in national health policies.

Evaluation of health facilities through the Hospital Safety Index (ISHv2)

Safe Hospitals is an initiative promoted by WHO and PAHO. Participants who complete this course will learn about the elements of a health facility evaluated through the Hospital Safety Index, identify threats that jeopardize hospital security, calculate the safety index, identify necessary elements for emergency and disaster management and systematize the hospital evaluation procedure.

Water supply during Emergency Medical Team deployments

This course is designed to provide people involved in the deployment and operation of emergency medical teams with the necessary tools and knowledge to be prepared and respond quickly and timely to emergencies, disasters and pandemics.

Malaria elimination

All malaria control programs should be geared towards the activities and strategies necessary to achieve transmission interruption, prevent re-establishment, and obtain WHO certification. The purpose of this course is to provide a framework for health workers to strengthen their capacities in malaria elimination.

Training for HIV surveillance and monitoring in Latin America and the Caribbean

This course is based on the most recent recommendations for HIV surveillance and monitoring, introducing basic concepts for: case surveillance, categorization of key population groups, HIV infection risk assessment, operational considerations for building HIV prevention and care cascades, and monitoring of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services.

Public health ethics - Puerto Rico Node

With the aim of offering training in public health ethics to authorities and health professionals, this course seeks to strengthen the capacity of participants to address ethical problems that impact the health of populations, including decision-making, formulation of health policies, surveillance tasks and emergency situations.

Regulatory policies to prevent obesity and diet-related noncommunicable diseases

The objective of this course is to strengthen participants capacity to design and promote effective regulatory policies aimed at reducing the demand for and offer of ultra-processed and processed products to prevent obesity and diet-related noncommunicable diseases in the Region of the Americas.

This course aims to train public health professionals to implement social marketing programs and apply commercial marketing strategies to achieve behavioral changes in the population, promote healthy habits, and/or prevent diseases.

Violence against women is widespread around the world and causes significant physical, sexual, and mental health problems. As a public health crisis, it requires a coordinated and forceful response from health systems, leaders, and workers worldwide. This course provides tools for these purposes.
