Was held in Panama "Meeting of Mayors"

On October 7 and 8th,  2010, was held in the District of Santa Fe de Veraguas, Panama,  the "Meeting of Mayors." This event was attended by mayors and delegates from mayors of the municipalities of Arraiján, Taboga, Santiago, San Francisco, Calobre, Rio de Jesus and Kusapín, and they signed an agreement to promote the Millennium Development Goals, through strategies territorial development of the Ministry for Agricultural Development (MIDA), the strategy Voices Faces and Places (VFP) of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the Pan American Health Organization, World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), in the presence full Territorial Development Council of the District of Santa Fe and other institutions and organizations invited.

The event was attended by the Director of PAHO / WHO for the Americas, Dr. Mirta Roses, Representative of PAHO / WHO in Panama, Dr. Joaquín Molina and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Felix Bonilla, who encouraged local stakeholders and support offered to extend these initiatives throughout the country.

The Millennium Declaration is a commitment to work together and build a more secure, more prosperous and more equitable, with eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, this statement was adopted in September 2000 by 189 World leaders gathered at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

The strategy Faces, Voices and Places of PAHO / WHO, agreed at the 27 Pan American Sanitary Conference in 2007, is running in the District of Santa Fe de Veraguas, and constitutes a comprehensive strategy to contribute to the achievement of the MDGs in local level, reaching the neediest people in the municipality.

In this context, the Meeting of Mayors, served to disseminate the experience of Territorial Development of Santa Fe de Veraguas and Strategy Faces, Voices and Places, which agreed to adopt and adapt in their own municipalities. Extend Health-Education Partnership and Development Districts Calobre and Rio de Jesus, in the province of Veraguas and make virtual education PAHO / WHO through the Virtual Campus of Public Health (VCPH) for training in issues Local Health Development and use of information and communication technologies for networking.
