New PAHO plan aims to reduce a shortage of nearly 800,000 health workers in the Region of the Americas
Health authorities from the countries and territories of the Region of the Americas agreed on a new plan to reduce a shortfall of 800,000 health workers needed to meet the current needs of the Region’s health systems. The agreement was reached during the PAHO 56th Directing Council. Read more
PAHO Director highlights health progress in the Americas, 40 years after the historic Alma-Ata Declaration
Back in 1978, when countries around the world recognized primary health care as the key to “health for all” at Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, average life expectancy in the Americas was 67 years. Forty years later, a baby born in the Americas can today expect to live 10 years longer, that is, to age 77. Read more
